Sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge receipt of your communication No 15984/97 of 11th August 1897.
With regard to Para 2, on the subject of pay, I have so far drawn Indian pay up to 15th July.
I arrived in London from India on the 7th August, and as yet no arrangement has been made with the India Office as to whether I shall receive any pay from it during the period required for completion of Report on Plague.
I desire to know whether I shall be on half-pay during this period or whether I can draw Hong Kong full pay during this time, the other half being possibly paid by the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies.
